Commission Process Pt. 1

Last week I was asked if I do commissions, and I thought that I really don’t promote how much I enjoy doing pieces specifically for someone. So I am going to do a series of posts (with the permission of the guy buying the piece) going through the process of buying a commission from me.

This is how I responded to his inquiry
“Thanks, I’m glad you like my work. I’m always up for taking on customs for folks. What platform toy would you want me to work with and which pieces of mine are you more fond of?

From here I usually try and get a better idea of what you like in customs (subject matter, colors, things like that). Then we agree on a price, I do up some sketches and send them your way. Then once you are happy with that I dive in.”

I found out that he really dug my Teddy Troop and likes elements of masks and the moon. Below is my first sketch.
Concept Sketch for Commission

Usually I check and see if there is a specific deadline that it needs to be done by. Between work, shows that I have going on and other projects, I want to ensure that I will be able to get things done in the timeframe they are looking for. I am going to do a few more sketches and see where it takes us.

Stay tuned for the next installment of Commission Process
