“I accidentally snagged this little guy in one of my traps when trying to catch some small game for supper. I wasn’t sure what I would find but I was really hoping I would snare something like a rabbit. Cute little bunnies must not reside in the forests outside the Valley of Despair.

When I went to check my traps all I could hear was a shrill screeching as the net swung frantically from the tree limbs. I must’ve been taken aback by the horrid noises because I didn’t even notice the small tribe of little Bludgers on the ground. Next thing I knew there were more than a dozen of these things screaming at me in some unintelligible language as they attacked my feet with clubs made from animal bones.

I quickly let the one in the net free, but somehow in the process I stepped on a different one snapping it’s neck. The rest of the tribe of critters scurried off, so I brought this one back to put on the mantle.”

This was originally a blank 8″ Toyer Qee that I sculpted on top of with magic sculpt and random animal bones. This will be available at Dragatomi for the Toy2R 15th Anniversary Show on October 9th.

This is a custom Celsius that I worked on for the upcoming show at Toy Art Gallery next month. I’ve been sitting on it for a while, but wanted to wait until closer to the show to post pics. I really enjoyed working on this platform and twisting it around into one of my creatures. I hope you enjoy him.

After he was all done it kinda reminded me of the flying Koopas from Super Mario brothers so that’s where his name came from.

Yesterday I poured 3 new silicone molds. 1 was a re-pour of my last mini-figure WDR to see if I could refine a few things and make the casting a little easier. The second one I didn’t glue my figure down good enough and it floated to the top wasting the silicone (I poured a new mold today…. hopefully I can do a test pour tomorrow). And then the 3rd was of my new mini figure Armadillididug which reminds me of the potato bugs or rolly polly bugs that I would play with and watch them curl into a ball as their defense mechanism. Here are a couple of test pours that I did to see how they’d come out. I’ll paint them up soon and post some new pics. They’re about 3.5″ tall.

Wajue de Ruchong or Digger of the Worm was originally a 10″ custom Yoka that I created. I liked the creature so much I thought I would take a go at making a smaller piece that I could produce in batches. I sculpted the first version, then made a mold out of a silicone mold-making material. From that I used a 2 part plastic/resin to pour my first batch of 10. This first color-way I am calling “First Born” and is limited to only 10 pieces. Due to the nature of the hand pour, these are not perfect…. they do not look like they were mass produced and some are a little rough around the edges. These will be available for sale in my online store May 21 at 3pm (est) for $30. If they do well, I may do some other color variations depending on how well the mold holds up.

Below are turns, a photo to give an idea of size next to a dunny, and then the photo of the army of 10.

I have really enjoyed the process and do plan to create some other figures before too long.

Today I started pouring a mini figure of my Wajue de Ruchong or Digger of the Worm. He’s about 3.5″ and each one is a little different. None of them are perfect, but I like them that way. They all feel like they were crafted by my hands. I also poured some brick-head figures that will most likely be turned into zombies. I have 11 of the worm diggers and 13 of the zombies in training. Hopefully I will be able to get all of them painted in time for Saturday’s Kirkwood Spring Fling…… but that’s not a lot of time. Once I have some paint applied I’ll drop some more photos. In the meantime here is the army that I am building.

So my last post was back in January and I can’t believe how much time has gone by without sharing anything that has been going on with me and my art.

The 3 man show at Alcove in February was a lot of fun and John Feskin’s pieces were amazingly fun to interact with.

A Healthy Dosage of Restlessness rocked Chicago in March at OhNoDoom Gallery. I did a couple of new pieces and a few oldies but goodies.

The Lunchbox show is still currently up at Alcove Gallery. I did a lego zombie themed lunchbox for the show. There are a ton of really great pieces still available here.

During all of that time I have been spending a lot more time watching my son Wyatt get bigger…. I can’t believe that he’s almost 6 months old already. That being said I haven’t been pushing on the art front as hard as I was before. It’s just going to be a slower go for a while.

Now on to the upcoming stuff:

FedEx should be here today with new stickers that I am really excited about…. new post on those once I get ‘em.

Kirkwood spring fling is coming up in a few weekends.

May 8th in Sacramento I will be in a group show at Dragatomi called “Not Vinyl” with a bunch of great artists.

I am teaming up with the fine folks over at Zombies & Toys for a release to be announced later this year….. just in time for DragonCon which I plan to have a table at again this year.

That’s it for now, but I will be back sooner than later.
